Day 10 – Dear Mane Family, My Curls Showed Up Like a Full-On Bollywood Heroine Today
Listen...
Today I wore a saree.
A red cotton one with a bold border and just enough backless blouse to make someone stutter.
But that’s not the plot twist.
The real twist?
I didn’t tame my hair to match the “occasion.”
I unleashed it.
No bun
No braid.
No “sleek low ponytail” to play it safe.
Just me… and my curls.
Wild. Bold. Loud. Soft at the ends, fierce at the roots.
I paired them with oxidised jhumkas, a deep bindi, and two strokes of kajal that said:
"She’s soft, but don’t test her."
I walked into that family event like I was in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali frame —
Except this time, the drama was natural.
Here’s what I’ve realized:
There’s something deeply desi about letting your curls breathe.
Our nannies may have said, “Tie it back, it looks messy.”
But I’ve decided that messy is divine.
That my curls deserve sindoor red.
They deserve dupattas and dhol beats and a room that turns when I enter.
Because with the right care, they don’t frizz, they flare.
And honestly, my BYOB routine has been my glam team in disguise:
Gentle Co-Wash – keeps my scalp calm in this heat.
Leave-In Conditioner – softens without weighing it down (even under the sun).
Volume Gel – makes every curl hold like it’s ready for a slow-mo hair flip.
Someone’s auntie asked me today,
“How do you keep your curls so nice?”
I smiled, flipped one curl over my shoulder, and said:
“I stopped trying to fix them.”
So today’s blog isn’t just about a good hair day.
It’s about reclaiming how a desi girl shows up.
Not tied up. Not muted.
But open, flowing, unforgettable.
Call it bold. Call it dramatic.
I call it homegrown glam with curl power.
